I'd like to rebuild my engine in the near future. I don't have a lot of mechanical experience, but I bought a few books on engine building and it doesn't look THAT bad. Assuming you will have a machine shop do the actual machining, the rest is simply assembling and dissassembling the engine. Although I am planning on getting the shop to rebuild the heads. Basically, you need a bunch of tools, including precision measuring tools, and a lot of patience. Chances are, it will take you (and me) a LOT longer than it would an experienced engine builder, but you get the satisfaction of doing it yourself. Big quesion is: how much money are you willing to risk? If you can afford to blow up an engine and then simply start over with another one, then go for it.
